About

The Sari Collective is the brainchild of Deepika Gosai. Born and raised in Palmerston North, New Zealand, Deepika has spent her younger years training in Bharat Natyam with her sister. She has always enjoyed dressing up, and especially loves to wear saris.

Deepika found that she was purchasing Indian outfits, wearing them occasionally. Then, they would be relegated to the back of the wardrobe as they went out of fashion. The Sari Collective is about breaking the cycle of fast fashion, of items being worn frequently, and of fashion being affordable to all.

In 2019, Deepika was living in Auckland. One afternoon, stuck in traffic on the way home, Deepika conceived the idea for The Sari Collective. The Sari Collective fits in with Deepika’s beliefs on everyday sustainability. She drives a hybrid car, stopped buying unnecessary clothes a few years ago, and was using reusable shopping bags long before it became the trend.

There have been many positive comments about the inception of The Sari Collective. Styling her mannequins and taking different photos has been the fun part of the journey for Deepika. She can’t wait to share her knowledge with you!
